Jazz news, reviews, gossip and some blues
Joey's got a really nice new cd out called "Organic Vibes" which features Bobby Hutcherson, George Coleman, and Ron Blake, plus Joey's regular band. At times it reminds me of Grant Green's album "Street of Dreams" (which also featured Hutcherson, with Grant, Elvin Jones and organist Larry Young). I got a chance last week to interview Joey on the phone, you can listen to it in Real Audio format here.

Getting paid to listen to music, and play it for other people, isn't such a bad gig. While supervising 90.7 KFSR's jazz programs is only a very small part of my duties as Station Manager of 90.7 KFSR radio in Fresno, California, it's the part closest to my heart, and the subject of this blog. I also am on air a couple of days a week as part of our Morning Jazz program, playing a lot of the music I discuss here on this blog. 90.7 KFSR is the primary source for authentic jazz music in the Fresno area, ranging from Louis Armstrong to Brad Mehldau. 90.7 KFSR also broadcasts a wide variety of music and programs, from shows like A Prairie Home Companion to etown, to genres from to western swing to indie pop and beyond. You can listen on the web at kfsr.org. Our jazz programs air Mondays thru Fridays, midnight till 6:00pm, Pacific time.

I saw Joey, long ago and far away, with John McLaughlin and Dennis Chambers, in Buenos Aires. A good show, I remember Joey leaving the stage playing his trumpet.
He is a great musician, quite underrated, but that's nothing new in the music scene, specially in jazz, with the "starlets" coming from time to time from under the rocks and some magazine's covers, just to "steal the show". So, really happy to see Joey alive and kicking!!!!!!
I saw the same show in Sacramento. Joey's organ vibrated the whole theatre. Nice show.
Yes,good show, John was really deep into Coltrane's music at the time. A really powerful trio.

Thanks for interview,Joey was booked to play here in Bermuda a few years ago,but the hurricane Fabian nixed it
